Born in Wales in the United Kingdom in 1982 I’ve been involved in modification work for Half-Life (a modification called Mastersword which turned Half-Life into an RPG with an inventory, shops and various monsters including orcs and spiders. I believe the mod is still in development even now as Mastersword Continued) wherein I served as a level designer, game designer and project lead both individually and as part of a triumvirate of leaders at different stages of the modifications life.

Since leaving this modification project I’ve been involved an Open University computer science degree (which I did not complete) and a Bachelor of Arts: Creative Computer Game Design degree which I completed in 2010. All of the above have provided me with a familiarity with and appreciation for the challenges within various different areas of game design & development.

Though I have experimented in a variety of different roles, my main area of interest is in game design where I focus on the user/player experience. Rather than simply concentrating on trying to put the ‘fun’ into games, my main areas of concern are in trying to locate and eliminate any possible source of frustration that could get in the way of the players enjoyment of a game including issues such as unnecessary button presses in a menu system, colour blindness, game balance and the translation of console control methods & interfaces to PC release candidates.
